“In July 2022, at 68 years old, I started voice lessons with Beth. I had never sang before, but had a retirement goal I hoped to achieve of singing at senior facilities. Beth is so knowledgeable about the voice, an excellent teacher, and encouraging. Beth is an active performing musician with her band Roundhouse. So she is very aware of presentation while singing. I often thought my singing goals were not attainable at my age. But Beth was supportive in my process. She taught me proper techniques and pointed out the changes in my voice as it grew, and I slowly became more sure of my voice. In November 2023, 3 days after my 70th birthday, I did my first performance at a senior facility. I played my ukulele and sang Christmas songs for 1.5 hours. Through November and December 2023 I played 17 performances at senior facilities in my county. Beth's skills have developed in me the ability to go out and bring entertainment and joy to others. Many of those facilities have booked me out through 2024. A side benefit of performing is the improvement of all of my musical skills.
