It feels very strange to be reviewing a funeral home, but here we are.I was impressed when I had heard that Fisher is independent and has been family owned for generations, so I thought I would take a chance on them and go through them after my grandmother passed.Let me just say that I'm so glad they did. Each staff member I met with was very professional, yet still warm and comforting– as was the atmosphere itself. They answered each of my questions and I never felt pressured to decide anything immediately upon asked.Nobody wants to think about expenses when someone passes, but it's the unfortunate reality that we all face right away. Fisher was by far the most reasonably...read full review
I cannot recommend this funeral home to anyone, despite their good reputation. We had a pre-arranged, pre-paid burial plan. We met with a staff person pre-need to make sure that our preferences were clear. I will say that during my husband's terminal illness I called and asked to be walked through what to expect, which was helpful. That earned them one gold star. After my husband passed his body was retrieved gracefully and with respect. Two stars--because these things were important. But once his body was in their possession I had to chase down every service we paid for. On the day of the funeral we were put in a dingy room where we waited for family pall bearers, only to learn that they had been told by the funeral home to go on ahead to the cemetery and were waiting for us there. I spoke with the driver of the hearse regarding the funeral procession but the hearse took off without us. There was no guidance through the process. After the burial the grave was left unmarked, confusing the monument setter. I had to pursue death certificates and their filing with the insurance company. I did receive many apologies, kudos for that. After the graveside service we asked people to go online to offer their memories and sympathies--but the funeral home had failed to include his obituary on their website. When I was alerted to it, they corrected it--but weeks had gone by and it was too late. Despite our paying for obituaries and leaving instructions, I had to prompt them to put his obit in the local paper and it was published--but with many typos and odd characters (which the paper didn't correct). The last straw came nearly six months later. My husband's bi-annual alumni magazine Taps section had no obituary for him! I spoke with their editor and learned they never received anything from the funeral home. Rather than lodge a complaint with the very polite office staff, I decided it would serve best to warn people off with an online review. With the exceptions noted, the services we received from Fisher FH were inept and unprofessional. In my family, this funeral home is infamous.
Great people to work with. Family owned (multi-generation Albany family) makes you comfortable that you are working with your neighbors. The family is also very involved in the community. I wouldn't go anywhere else.
