Hair Salon Head Spa-Japanese - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

When Toronto finally reopened from the third wave of lockdown in mid-July, I was excited about getting a hair appointment, but apparently so were many others. The Japanese salons that I frequented were all soon booked until September. Luckily, I stumbled upon Atelier May! I took a chance and filled in a bit more detail on what my expectations were for this appointment in the booking form. Honestly, as usual, I didn’t really have a clear idea of what style I wanted but I was sure that I’d like to try a different colour. And then, surprisingly, while confirming my booking, Akemi also replied to my note and asked for even more detail about the hair colours I was considering and my current hairstyle. For me, this is an absolutely great sign of professionalism when the hair artist is willing to invest the time and effort to gather as much information as possible even before you walk into the salon. We then exchanged a few more emails at length on what was possible and feasible during my visit. In the end, I felt I was in such good hands, I went with Akemi’s ideas fully. Needless to say, my entire visit was more than pleasant. Akemi was not only very good at what she does but very flexible and communicative. I ended up with a cut, a perm, a colouring, and a treatment; all done within 3.5 hours. I cannot recommend Akemi and her service enough. If you’re looking to change your style up, Atelier May is the place to go!

I loved my friend's new haircut and she told me to go see Akemi, who did her hair. Akemi was very friendly, actually the staff were all friendly. The salon was naturally bright because of their large windows. The salon gave me a very comfortable and homey feeling. It's clean and simple. Akemi took the time to ask what kind of cut I wanted and also took the time to give her recommendations. As well, she taught me simple hair tips that are easy to do!! The biggest bonus here is the head spa/shampoo before getting the cut - I have never ever had such an amazing shampoo session! Ryo is the massage master! I highly recommend getting your hair done by Akemi!
