Called the night before and they told me I could come in the next morning at 9:30. I arrived around 12:15 just because I was still unsure if I should go, My hair is soft they told me it might not last longer than a month which was fine with me. There was 4 women working on my hair. I asked for knotless braids to my waist, they gave me the option to add some color and the price was normal ($280 + hair provided so YAY!) and they finished my head around 2:20. I love my braids and I think they did a wonderful job but the salon could use upgrade.Minus a star because they did cut some of my real hair when they went to trim the braids of stragglers, not a lot but still.P.s....read full review
When I was in college everyone went to Moyas or Trudys to get their braids. Many moons later most everybody still does. Theres a few new shops in town but Toledo does not have alot of african braiding shops. Yeah you can find plenty of folks that do hair out of their house but the reliability is questionable. May or may not be licensed. So Moya has updated her game in recent years. Still price gouge but every braiding shop does this. I know text the picture and get the price in text so if they attempt to charge something else you have a record. Shame you have to do this but if you want braids that's what you have to do. They still have you get up in the middle of your hairstyle to complete someone elses style 'real quick' with no discount for wasting your time. However when I arrived for my 9am appointment there were 4 braiders there n ready to go which is new because they are notorious for being late. All were professional. Yep they still speak French ( I don't see why folks are offended by them speaking their native language). I guarantee you will come out with your hair slayed. As African Americans have only a handful or so ethnic salons here this is no better or worse than the other salons.
I see a lot of people put bad reviews and I had to say something. No they're aren't always professional but I've been going here for 10 years and they are the best braiding shop in Toledo for sure. If you tell them what you want precisely you will be satisfied. Yes there's one girl in particular who braids very tight. So if let her braid your edges and you have soft hair it'll come out. I don't have to name anyone you will know. The rest of the ladies do a very good job. I have sensitive skin and I'm tender headed and I still continue to come back. I have heard some horror stories about other shops and I have never broke out or anything at Moya's. The big problem is they...read full review
