“Recently, my 14 year old Carrier Infinity furnace started making a lot of noise when the inducer motor came on. So, I turned it off. I called one HVAC company up, and and the guy they sent out said that I should get a new furnace. I also called another HVAC company up for a 2nd opinion, and the guy that they sent was a little older, and said that he had seen this before: the seal between the inducer motor and the inducer fan had gotten dried out over the last 14 years, which is understandable. So, he put a few drops of oil on it, and it stopped the noise, and hasn't been a problem 3 days ever since. I'll probably have him come back and replace the seal entirely, but there is no hurry to do so now. According to him, replacing the seal can be an issue because you may need to replace parts when taking the the inducer fan apart, and depending upon how hard it is to get the fan blade off the shaft. But it is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying a new furnace.“
