Impressed at the quality of service here. My barber took his time to make sure the job was done well and that I got what I wanted. I took the subway three stops to get here after seeing the reviews, and I'm glad I did. The prices and quality are excellent.Services: Beard maintenance
If there's one thing that's just as saturated as Irish pubs in Sunnyside, it's barber shops. With one at almost every block, the competition is pretty fierce. Juan's has been around for years, armed with a new'ish awning (now Juan Pablo's barbershop) and a new stylist, things are looking up and during the pandemic there couldn't be a better time. The shop is small and for a while seemed like they were going through a rough patch as I noticed there were fewer customers than in years past. It got to a point where they were closing earlier than when they were supposed to. I had been turned away twice roughly 20 minutes before they were supposed to close. Now, I'm less likely to go if I'm even within an hour of closing. The guys cutting hair in here are a group of handsome dudes who know how to handle hair. I've come here a handful of times in the past and I've come away with a rather stylish 'do. I'm usually pretty satisfied and appreciate how hip they are, especially when it comes to men's styles. They now have a new addition in Ayumi (or Amy) who might just be better than everyone else working there. The attitudes there might have rub some people the wrong way, myself included, but Ayumi is classy, friendly, and pretty versatile overall. She is open to new looks and is quite easy to work with. Sadly she only works on weekends. I could be wrong but I believe they're still cash only. Prices seem pretty fair and most the staff is good about the cleanliness and even COVID protocols. What I appreciate the most was I never left feeling itchy or gross as they were good about making sure I was truly cleaned up before leaving. They could work on a being a little friendlier. Speaking Spanish is a plus, but certainly not a requirement.
Juan's barbershop in 42-09 Queens Boulevard is awesome. The staff is amazing and Amy/Ayumi my friend and my barber is amazing, optimistic, an awesome and smiling person, and with her artistic skills she will fix your hair with textures. Here is a link for my documentary video about Juan's Barber and Amy/Ayumi:
