The summer started off on a very wrong footing. Given the circumstance with the virus, my 10 year old son being treated with Fentanyl at Stony Brook Hospital, when he broke his arm, simply compounded the situation. My son is an asthmatic and the triggers for his asthma are seasonal pollen, very specifically birch and oak and pet dander, particularly cat dander. He generally has moderate episodes when exposed to any of the triggers, and has to take his meds for about 10 to 14 days. After which the asthma is gone until he is once again exposed to any of the triggers. Over the last few years, his asthma has been improving. This year, however, after the administration of Fentanyl, mind you, administered without my consent, he had daily episodes. These episodes had absolute nothing to do with exposure to his triggers. Additionally, his medication was not as effective as it had been in the past to treat that asthma. I felt overwhelmed and helpless. I didn't understand what had gone wrong and I didn't feel comfortable with the daily administration of steroids which are known to compromise ones immunity. This was the last thing I wanted, especially with this pandemic around. Having personally experienced the miraculous healing effects of acupuncture, I sought out Xinping Cao's Acupuncture and Massage Therapy. This probably was one of the best decisions I made this summer. I was and remain very impressed with the whole team. They are exceptionally professional, very well informed. They sough to integrate their practice with that of my son's health care provider for his asthma in a seamless and very effective manner. They were very thorough, compassionate, and very warm. My insurance doesn't cover acupuncture. They went out of their way to get me a package deal being offered on Groupon. As if this wasn't enough, half way through the payments, they said, I didn't need to pay for the other half of the treatments. In essence, 50% of my treatments were free. Unbelievable!!! My son was also suffering from very bad constipation, that too, as a result of having been given Fentanyl. On one of the early treatments, members of the team actually drove out while we were taking the treatment and purchased moong beans and Chinese cabbage in an effort to alleviate the constipation with foods and herbs used in Chinese medicine, to conservatively address the issue, this purchased at their own expense. I cannot say enough about their graciousness, generosity and thoughtfulness. I am awed by it. They simultaneously continued to treat his constipation through acupuncture and massage therapy. We have finished our 6th treatment over the course of 4 weeks. The first 4 were done over the course of 2 weeks. Already things are markedly different. His constipation is gone and the asthma is just about gone too. Even though my son is only 10 years old, he looks forward to seeing his two acupuncturists, Diana and Sophie. They are funny and kind and so warm. They make him feel comfortable, despite the mild discomfort of the needles, especially for a child. Every time, he has a treatment, his cheeks are ruddy and he looks fresh, almost like he has refreshing shower. This glow, for lack of a better description, lasts for nearly 24 hours. All in all, it was a fortuitous day that brought me into Xinping Cao's practice. Thank you for profound gift of restoring health back to my son.
