“Competency is being too highly rated in the 21st century. You call a call center and the person understands and handles your request. You get a survey and you are supposed to be elated that someone did the job which they were hired to do. You are supposed to treat the lack of incompetence as something exceptional. I don't. When I receive competent, efficient service, I rate them moderately because a customer should be entitled to expect competence as a minimum requirement. I need to preface my review with the above because if All Island Restoration (AIR) had done the job completely and within an appropriate timeframe and with proper communication, they would receive three stars because they did what was needed; what should be expected. What constitutes a five-star rating? Not only did they get the job done completely, they did it as well as it could be done. The doors were properly installed. Drywall and electrical work were done with exceptional care. Cabinetry was properly aligned with meticulous placement of hardware. Flooring work was expertly done with an emphasis on ensuring the best overall appearance. Tasks were scheduled intelligently so that work that could be done simultaneously without interference were thusly scheduled. AIR took care to protect any work that was already complete from being mishandled or damaged by their subsequent work. While quality of materials was emphasized, AIR was careful about understanding our limited available funds so that a reasonable middle-ground could be achieved whenever necessary. Cleaning up after their work was likewise always a priority for them. The Project Manager, Joe, listened so carefully to my responses to his questions that he learned (without directly asking me) what my priorities and concerns would be. He quickly understood when he could make a decision himself (and then alert me later), and when he needed to get my input beforehand. Given my busy schedule, it was truly a godsend to know that I could rely on him to be watching out for my home as he would for his own. I grew to rely on his expert advice as you would from a close friend or a trusted sibling. Being a good communicator does not mean using lots of words or lots of five-dollar words. Being a good communicator means getting the information across efficiently and accurately. Joe is an exceptional communicator. I quickly learned that if I needed to know something, I would be informed. He always ensured that I properly understood an issue before he would allow me to make a decision. Early on, he let me know when he should be accessible for a text or call and when he might not be. I respected his time and he never let me down in terms of responding. He let me know that he would pick up a call whenever he could or would get back to me if he could not. Knowing this, I never had to leave a him a message, both of us understanding that he would always return the call. He was likewise very respectful of my time, judiciously using text messages when appropriate so that I could respond as time permitted. As a result of their tremendous efforts, the home has been not only restored but is far better than anything I would have been able to achieve had I led the efforts myself. While I believe that other firms could have done this work competently, I do not believe that any would have done this work better.“

“Being new homeowners, we were prepared for the typical contractor experience that you hear about from everyone. Missed timeframes, work going over budget, lack of communication, etc. This was the complete opposite experience from beginning to end. Vinny gave us the most detailed and realistic quote out of the 4 contractors we had give estimates on our Basement project. Work started and finished within the initial timeframe he gave us, and stayed within the estimate budget he set for us. Honest and upfront all the way through. His operations manager Heather is an absolute gem. She updated us daily on what to expect for the next day, who would be coming, and when they would be there. She helped us on timeframes for items we needed to pick out and helped guide our decisions with her knowledge of current trends and work they have done on other homes recently. Our project manager George was on site several days a week to ensure the job was progressing at a high level and in a timely fashion. He went out of his way on several occasions to pick up necessary items to make sure the work got done that day and kept the project on schedule. George and Vinny were also was extremely accommodating when we asked them to add an additional project in our home midway through and found a way to fit it in the schedule with no issues at all.Dan, Ray, and Anthony all did excellent work with the built-ins, cabinetry, and tile work. They took our input and worked with us to deliver exactly what we had envisioned.Simply put, we will never be looking for another contractor for any of our home projects going forward. Our search will begin and end with Vinny and his crew.“
