This place provided me a soft place to land. Loving kindness from everyone there. I love the sivananda sequence. They let me come in late and I was not made to feel less than. An oasis in a very lonely city.

yoga wise and people wise, it's really, really good. I think Sivananda Yoga is now The best in NYC for traditional hatha yoga = yoga that emphasizes relaxing slow fully body stretching and doing so with deep calming body limbering breath work.the practice room is really clean, and I mean that both in the literal way (not a speck of dust anywhere which is esp important when doing deep cleansing and restorative breathing exercises) and also clean energy wise which is what you need when the goal of practicing yoga is to decompress and expel tension. only negative is the dressing room powder rooms are obv too small.

Tonight I went back to my yoga spot in-person for the first time since the pandemic! It felt so so great to be in this spiritual space once again. I remember when I first moved to NYC almost 15 years ago, I was living on 30th and 9th. It was still pretty ghetto and definitely up and coming, but they called it “Upper Chelsea.” One day, I headed down south to the “real” Chelsea and was wandering around trying to find a local yoga place. Walking on 24th street, I noticed this blade sign with its logo literally being shone on with bright sunlight and that was how I found Sivananda. I still wonder…Did I find it, or did IT find me?
