I have a One Medical membership through my job, and I admittedly didn't think anything of it because as a healthy young person I so rarely visit the doctor. A year into the pandemic, I find myself with all kinds of physical ailments, most likely due to sitting in one position all day long for months on end. As a result I've sought professional help through One Medical. Booking appointments is incredibly easy via their app and website, and each practitioner has a bio that tells you about their specializations but also about their point of view and hobbies that give you a better sense of them as a multi-dimensional human being. There is so much inherent bias when it comes to diagnoses and treating patients that the life experience that inform a doctor's point of view can matter a whole lot. The doctors I have met with have been practical, open minded, and really down to earth which has been really refreshing. Another big point in One Medical's favor is that all their appointments actually start on time, which I have never ever experienced at a doctor's office before. It's sad to say that it's par for the course to allot way more time--sometimes several hours-- in a waiting room when the actual doctor's appointment is over in mere minutes. I don't know logistically how One Medical does things differently but it really makes me feel like they respect my time, so I respect the hell out of them. I booked a covid PCR test here, showed up 5 minutes before my appointment, and they actually saw me straight away. I was in and out of there before my actually scheduled appointment time. My results were emailed to me the very next day. The waiting area is also really cute and made any dread I normally feel around doctor's visits dissipate. I can't believe I had ever taken my One Medical membership for granted. It is the best thing since sliced bread.
