Its been a few years since taking our last class in Johnstown. We've moved twice, first to NYC then to rural Vermont, and have not found any kind of training opportunities that come close in terms of quality or value. The way AZDK teaches is a well proven model. Students learn to be patient and respectful as a starting point. They learn to focus on the task at hand and to work well with others so that everyone in the group improves. Most important of all, they learn to be honest with themselves. They learn to appreciate standards. They learn and how established performance criteria do help them to work harder than they would otherwise to achieve their goals. No student is pushed through to levels beyond their abilities. No student is held back by anything other than themselves. Students are actively encouraged to compete, not only in tournaments and within the their local school, but most of all with themselves. As time passes in training and the instructors get to know their students each student is taught based upon their Their program was started by Sensei (Japanese word meaning teacher) Campos who spent a career as a professional educator. Some of the best memories we have are road trips with Senseis Camos and D'Amico to different martial arts conventions and seminars to expand our own understandings of what works and how to faithfully incorporate the good into a greater whole. When you sign a child up for a program at AZDK, you are introducing him or her to what will in time become very much a new extended family. Like any family AZDK members will cheer them on to success, but not hesitate a moment to point out and help work to overcome any shortcomings. It's what families do. Oh and Moms and Dads out there, If you start training too, you will be far better informed and able to help your child progress.
