I moved out to the North Fork in the 90's and THANK GOD FOR HOMMEL! A local plumber told us about them and they're still one of the best kept secrets on the North Fork, even though they've been here since the 1930's. All the plumbers and contractors out here use them for their plumbing and heating supplies, but not everyone knows they sell directly to the public, too. They have like 9,000 items in that little store (they own the building behind it too and both are filled with plumbing and heating supplies). I'll never go to Lowe's or Home Depot with Hommel in town. The owner and staff have earned my trust with their competence, great service, willingness to answer questions both big and small....not to mention their friendliness, neighborliness. It's a human place for human beings...something I miss sorely at box stores. If it comes down to paying a few bucks more I will do it gladly, putting those dollars back into the local economy here in Greenport, dealing with a terrific local business that provides great value to the community as only a locally owned and operated, respected quality business can.

Had a plumbing issue on a Saturday afternoon. Pulled up to Hommel and they were closed. Dismayed at traveling to Southold or Riverhead, to our surprise this gentleman pulls up in his truck and asks us what we need. He went back in and opened the store for us to get us exactly what was needed. Another lady shows up and the door and they helped her too. Thank you Hommel.
