Going to a new barber shop is a scary experience. After moving to the neighborhood 2 years ago and traveling into Queens for my regular guy of 5 years, I decided to try someone walking distance. Not enough reviews for barber shops on here, so I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. It's a clean place, well lit and no wait. It was only a Wednesday, but they take appointments. I'll update once I return on how timely they keep appointments on weekends. I got a simple haircut and shave, but Chino did a very nice job, took his time, and asked for my feedback often to make sure I was happy with how it was coming out. Been going to these guys for YEARS. First off, let me say I'm a man of color, but I don't have "Black people's hair"..I have "Good hair"...as some may say... With that said, I can no longer afford to wait hours in a poorly-decorated, dimly lit establishment to hear all kinds of inappropriate language to get my hair poorly cut by an unskilled barber that ONLY knows how to use clippers sharp enough to rip the skin right off the nape of your neck (every local Black owned barbershop in the area). I have started going to Amigos barber shop regularly now. Before i tried a small barber shop on Atlantic in freeport, a small barber shop on grand in baldwin, and a decent barber shop on guy lumbardo on sunrise in freeport, but NONE compare to Amigos. Amigos is a big barber shop with 10 chairs; I've never had to wait to get my hair cut. Although i have never used it, they boast that they have wi-fi, again i've never used it, but that's because i've never had opportunity to because i've never had to wait for a barber. It's a fun atmosphere with spanish music playing in the background and guys shooting the breeze as they work. What most attracted... read full review
