Going to a new barber shop is a scary experience. After moving to the neighborhood 2 years ago and traveling into Queens for my regular guy of 5 years, I decided to try someone walking distance. Not enough reviews for barber shops on here, so I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised. It's a clean place, well lit and no wait. It was only a Wednesday, but they take appointments. I'll update once I return on how timely they keep appointments on weekends. I got a simple haircut and shave, but Chino did a very nice job, took his time, and asked for my feedback often to make sure I was happy with how it was coming out. At $15, I'm used to paying that price for 45 minutes of someone's time. I also gladly tip the rest of the $20 bill, which Chino was grateful for. The only setback would be for someone who doesn't speak Spanish. They joked a ton, and if you didn't understand what they were saying, you just might think they were arguing. Latinos just have this way of joking that can be misunderstood. Overall, I feel it's a great place for a regular haircut. I'll surely return for Chino again.

Been going to these guys for YEARS. First off, let me say I'm a man of color, but I don't have "Black people's hair"..I have "Good hair"...as some may say... With that said, I can no longer afford to wait hours in a poorly-decorated, dimly lit establishment to hear all kinds of inappropriate language to get my hair poorly cut by an unskilled barber that ONLY knows how to use clippers sharp enough to rip the skin right off the nape of your neck (every local Black owned barbershop in the area). I go to these guys because they actually know what looks good on you. They take their time, the place is brightly lit and who doesn't like to hear a little bachata or reggaeton once in a blue moon?? They are highly skilled and can use scissors and a straight-edge as well as they can use their clippers. Instruments and tables are cleaned and there's ALWAYS a sexy lil Latina mami there to tend to customers and keep the floor clean (that's a BIG plus in my book). The knock: unless you can speak Spanish, you better be asking for something relatively simple. The language barrier HAS annoyed me from time to time, since I will get specific about what I want and they will give me THEIR idea of what I asked for. Other than that SOMETIMES big issue, I actually ENJOY going there!

I have started going to Amigos barber shop regularly now. Before i tried a small barber shop on Atlantic in freeport, a small barber shop on grand in baldwin, and a decent barber shop on guy lumbardo on sunrise in freeport, but NONE compare to Amigos. Amigos is a big barber shop with 10 chairs; I've never had to wait to get my hair cut. Although i have never used it, they boast that they have wi-fi, again i've never used it, but that's because i've never had opportunity to because i've never had to wait for a barber. It's a fun atmosphere with spanish music playing in the background and guys shooting the breeze as they work. What most attracted me to the shop though is that all the barbers are excellent. I've never had a bad experience or a bad cut there. It's as though they assembled the best barbers around and stuck them all in one shop. The only thing i don't care much for is the price. A regular cut will run you $15. In comparison you don't have to look far to get a cut for $10 somewhere else and even $7 on a tuesday or wednesday at a nearby competitor. Still for the quality of cut I don't mind paying a little extra.
