“If your child is interested in martial arts, the youth programs at Trigon are second to none. The trainers exhibit all the positive traits you would want from a sensei or coach. They combine physical fitness and exercise with uplifting messages of self determination and reflection. The bond they develop with their students enables their pupils to trust the process and reward of hard work and focus. Our son looks forward to class each day!“

1842 E Jericho Turnpike, Huntington“Our family has been part of the Tiger Shulman’s Huntington studio for 2 years. This experience has been beyond my expectations of when I first sat down with Sensei Castillo to talk about enrolling my child. At the time I was thinking ‘This will help my child face the bus bullies’. Two years later, I can see that what Sensei has given my family goes way beyond my first thought. My review is lengthy. Here are the highlights:1) Sensei Castillo is a truly gifted and exuberant instructor. His energy, wisdom and love permeate the entire studio.2) I have seen my child grow physically and mentally. This new growth is manifested in and outside the studio. In a nutshell: my child is genuinely thriving in life.3) This studio has a warm and welcoming community. And it is spotless clean.5) I was inspired to join the studio and I love it.This studio is owned by Sensei Castillo. He deeply cares about every single person that walks into his studio. This includes all his students and their parents. Moreover, Sensei expertly oscillates between his young students and his older students, keeping his energy constant and to the level of his student. Among the many valuable traits Sensei has is true genuine discipline, which radiates throughout the whole studio. He leads by example. He leads with true love. And he holds the bar deservedly high for everyone to rise and thrive and feel proud. I have seen my child become more mature and attain more self-control and self-love. This was illustrated when my child shared with me how to persist in a difficult physical game: “I kept telling my body positive things to keep going.” These words solidified our commitment to maintain our child learning with Sensei.Sensei micromanages his entire studio. It is impeccably clean and organized. His coaches are trained and monitored by him to preform like him teaching his students. He also is the studio manager, membership administrator, and schedule coordinator. The studio culture is warm and welcoming. Everyone says hi and are happy to see you. It is almost like the show Cheers, but with punching bags. And this is what inspired me to join the studio. My child inspired me to try this studio. Here is how this unfolded for me. I have been active my adult life participating in a plethora of fitness programs. At this point in time something was missing in my fitness need: a sense of community. When I first tried a kickboxing class, I felt so inadequate and weird, and embarrassed. I am a fit person, but I was surprisingly uncomfortable in the studio with other students. So, after that first class I did not go back. Sensei let me be. He was gently waiting on the mat for me to be ready to come back. Months passed by and an email came announcing a 60 day challenge. And with the mind set of “I am changing to be uncomfortable” I returned to the mat to embrace the uncomfortable. Oh boy, I stink at this kickboxing thing. I am the most uncoordinated person in the world, and it takes me a long time to teach my limbs how to move. But, in this new uncomfortable space I have found growth. And I love my adult beginner kickboxing class. First, Coach Antony is a good fit for me. He is a baseball athlete, and he does excellent explaining and demoing the moves. Second, it is at 6 am. I love starting my day punching and kicking and then I can go on with my day and not have to think about: “I have to do my workout”. And my classmates are a pleasure to train with and I look forward to seeing them and punching with them. And it is quite refreshing to do an activity that has a lot of male energy. In summary, this martial arts studio is a gem. Children and adults convey on the same mat to learn and teach the art of being peaceful, which comes when you can defend yourself and hold your ground. Moreover, this studio is populated with members that deeply care for each other and are constantly nourishing their growth as individuals in the community. This studio empowers their members to thrive on and off the mat.“

My boys took TKD at Chris Gates TKD Center from 2016-2022. In those 7 years, they earned countless stripes and belts, including their Junior Black Belts. Yes, it's been a while since they've attended a class here, but I am inspired to leave this review.
TKD and Boy Scouts were always "non-negotiables" in our household, meaning our sons (now 14 and 16) could drop any other sport/activity they wanted except these two. We loved the morals/teachings of these two programs as they aligned with our family's values. To date, both boys are still in BS with our older son getting ready for Eagle.
When our boys first started TKD they were 4 and 7. The 4 yr old was the tiny, feisty one while the older one was a gentle, old soul. The older one sometimes got picked on because he was an easy target. He never wanted to "fight back" despite being of size and ability because he never wanted to get either himself or the other child in trouble. All it took was a couple of good talks from instructors like Sir Chris, Sir Joe, Sir James, Sir John, and Sir Bryan to boost his confidence and defend himself. After the first time he stood up to a bully, he was emotionally and mentally able to defend himself and his little brother any time something arose in the future.
Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, December 2024. My younger son has recently started playing hockey. He's on a travel team and says it's his favorite sport despite only being on this team for 3 months. There has been a few physical altercations with one player attacking other players. Each time this happened, my son was the one to step in and break up the fighting. Two weeks ago, this one boy had another in a headlock. The victim couldn't breathe and his nose started bleeding. My son was the ONLY teammate to step in and get the bully off the victim. Once he got him off and calmed them down (lots of screaming, punches, scratches, etc.), he sat the boys down and got both sides of the story. The bully even started verbally assaulting two other boys and my son got him to stop. A coach finally came into the locker room to handle the situation. My son was worried because he knows there's zero tolerance for fighting and kept saying, "I'm sorry, but I had to. I had to get [bully] off [victim]."
The next day I received two phone calls. One from the mom of the physical victim and one from the mom of the verbal victim, both thanking my son for saving [name] and if it weren't for my son, the outcome could've been much worse because that bully was not stopping despite the victim losing consciousness and bleeding.
When I spoke with my son, he kept apologizing again. I said, "Do not apologize, we ALWAYS stand up to the bullies and fight for the victims. You are a black belt in TKD and it's taught you to defend yourself and others when the time comes." My son said "Thank G-d I'm a black belt because [bully] wasn't stopping and [victim] couldn't get out of that chokehold." I said he saved [victim's] life because who knows what could've happened if you didn't stop him.
THIS is what TKD teaches! You don't instigate the fight, but, the physical, emotional, mental training you receive will allow you to stand up to those who want to cause harm. During the 7 years my boys were at Chris Gates, they learned discipline, perseverance, courageousness, etc. and these are the principles are now carried with them years later. Yes, we raised them with these values, but, this CHTKD reinforced our familial values. Without those years with Chris, Joe, John, James, Bryan, Charles, Juliana, Heidi, Steph, Aidan, (and so many others I'm sure I'm forgetting), I don't know if my boys would have the courage, valor, and fearlessness to navigate this crazy world.
There is so much ev“

36 Hawthorne Ave, East Islip“I do want to thank you Shihan, Renshi Ryan and all the staff at LI Ninjitsu. My son and I are very happy we found this program. I am already recognizing an improvement in his self esteem, his willingness and eagerness to try more tasks independently, and hopefully we continue to work on listening skills and focus. I wanted my son in a program like this, to surround him with positive male role models, structure, respect, determination and discipline. We have only just recently started but I am already seeing what this program can do for my child and the long lasting positive influence it will have on him. ?“
