“Jeff Toland / Toland Construction is a great craftsman and cares about quality work. He is honest, gives quotes that are reasonable and does the work on time. The workmanship is first rate and he is a great communicator. You need to see his portfolio of projects that he has done over the past 35 years in Cold Spring, Beacon, NYC, etc., to get a sense of how devoted he is to his customers and the quality of his work. He has numerous great referrals. Note: there is a customer on here who gave a really negative review and I think from the looks of it that you should not pay any attention to it. I've had nothing but good experiences with Jeff. Instead, I think you should call Jeff for an estimate, speak with him and judge for yourself. You'll be quite pleased you did-- he's a great contractor and person.“

“This is our third time hiring Alto Contracting. Prior times were a set of retaining walls and steps, and to deal with a serious drainage issue that had resulted in sink holes. This time was for curbstones along a brick path. Of particular import is that Rick has an excellent knowledge built from years of experience on how to deal with various issues - in this case drainage issues, repairing an existing walkway and aesthetic choices. Prior times were building retaining walls on a steep slope and drainage issues. On our first job with him (the serious drainage problem) who had three contractors come and each explained their preferred approach. With thought Rick's made the most sense and went with him, and it addressed our issues. After that we didn't bother with other bids. On the retaining wall, his approach was better than what was suggested by our engineer (who agreed and then had to submit the plans to the local building inspector and planning board). We would definitely hire Alto for future projects and highly recommend.“

“I started working with Marco, Mike, and their team at Continental in early 2024 for a major basement project in Yonkers. Our home is a ranch-style house with a crawlspace that stretched about half the length of the home. We wanted to excavate that space and convert it into a fully functional basement apartment, including a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, a separate entrance, and interior access to the first floor.

We hired them to:

- Excavate the basement crawlspace and extend the foundation footings
- Remove existing brick piers and steel girders and replace them with an LVL beam
- Pour a new slab
- Cut out and install new windows and window wells
- Build an exterior stone staircase with a new basement entrance
- Regrade the yard to accommodate the new doors and windows
- Install a new interior staircase to the first floor
- Frame the new basement apartment

From start to finish, working with Continental has been a pleasure. Marco was easy to communicate with and provided clear, detailed quotes at each stage of the project. We compared quotes from eight other general contractors, and not only was Continental one of the most competitive, but Marco also demonstrated a solid understanding of the complex foundation work involved. There were no surprise change orders — Marco was transparent throughout. Every inspection was passed on the first try.

Continental always left the work space clean. When an existing chimney used by our furnace needed to be removed, Continental's workers sectioned of other parts of the house so that dust was contained. They also swept and vacuumed after every major leg of the project.

Continental's stonework is very nice too. We had an existing stone retaining wall removed and remade to run along the house's main staircase. Continental matched the stone laying pattern and made the new wall look seamless. They also installed stone veneer that matched existing stone on the home around the window wells and new exterior staircase leading to the basement. All additions match the style of the home perfectly.

Marco was also very accommodating. When a stud wall was found to be slightly out of square, his team corrected it promptly and at no additional cost. When our original engineer became unresponsive, Marco even recommended an alternative architect who helped keep the project on track.
