What a privilege to get to dance, as a person off the street, with such prominent and wonderful teachers.Judith McCarty's Afro'Dance has been an epic experience. Her teaching style doesn't focus on choreography so much as gently drilling various movements – so you get the FEEL of the dance in your body. So as opposed to having "steps" to memorize... back on the street, I find my body just spontaneously responding to music with movements I first practiced with Judith. Why is everything in New York so amazing?

Took a drop-in class at the extension school in 2012, even though I had not danced in almost a decade. It was the level above beginner; but, I think the levels have changed now - I don't see levels above "advanced beginner" anymore. It was probably just the right intensity and pace for re-starting dance, but I was out of practice. I wanted to come back, but it didn't work out yet. The studio was great! A large, open, space. Teacher was great, too. I love resources like the Ailey school for people who love the arts but maybe never attained enough skill or did not set out to make it a career. It's for enrichment and exercise and fun!
