We've been taking our cats to Dr. Appel for about 7 years now. He's a very kind man and super experienced. He takes the time to explain what's happening and any options to you. Yes, he can run behind a bit on appointment times, but its bound to happen at a small practice especially one that does emergencies. In my view, its not a material concern, and he has always been great with our animals and following up with us afterwards regarding results. Even though we moved to Manhattan a few years ago, we still prefer to go to Bay Ridge to see him because he is that great.

Dr. Apell is great. Just keep in mind that I personally wouldn't describe him as a PEOPLE person. He's gonna be great with your animal, just not necessarily you. He does care a lot about the pets and he never turns animals away regardless of the time or the volume of customers. This is great for obvious reasons but it has the drawback that a lot of other ppl brought up about long wait times. I think that staff changes a lot due to my previous comment about the doctor being a little better with animals than with peers, but yeah. I think he knows what he's doing and he'll be direct with you.

I've been to many vets and Dr Roy Appel is among the best if not the best. Most vets I found tell you what you want to hear and beat around the bush. Instead of true veterinary service they focus on selling unnecessary services. They don't give clear answers and waste time while smiling away. The services feel synthetic and more like mills. Not the case here, Dr Appel provided a wealth of information on our specific case where other providers simply did not. He was able to answer what was clear and provide guidance on how to find additional guidance on what was not. There was a thorough evaluation, suggestions and absolute honesty. Our senior pup feels much better... read full review
