I've been getting my hair braided by the same braiding shop since I was 7 years old. Over the years of being a loyal customer (up until this past May), my sister and I have been disrespected with unprofessional attitudes, told one price and an increased price at the time of service, disregarded on the advisement of how we wanted our hair handled, waited hours for service even with an appointment., and invested literally thousands into this braiding shop over the years. As I got older, I realized the stereotype of "that's just how African braiding shops are" is ignorant and unacceptable excuse to settle for. So, my sister and I parted ways. While I'm not here to "out and or talk bad about another Black business (which is why they will remain nameless). SOOOOOOO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO. Here is my review on THIS braiding shop. On my quest of finding another braiding shop. I passed a braiding shop in my neighborhood and decided to give them a shot. Not only was this woman nice, but most importantly she was professional and transparent with me from the beginning regarding time of service. I walked in and it was busy. I told her that I can come, as I live in the neighborhood. She told me to call her in a hour so she can give me an exact time to come back. I did just. I called her an hour later and she told me she needed 45 mores mins. I came back in 45 ins and she began my hair. Her service was neat, she paid close attention to my edges, and the handle of my hair. Her kind and professional spirit was appreciated. I think it's important to be extremely mindful where you continue to give your money to. I encourage you to leave reviews on Yelp and Google on Black businesses to help other patrons seeking service and to force Black business owners to pay more attention on their customer service. The rhetoric of "this is why I don't do business with Black people" is NOT OK. Before walking away, I encourage you all to talk to Black business owners in a civil and respectful manner when you have issues with their service. I encourage Black business owners to be receptive to their customers feedback. And if all else fails, there’s no need to publicly bash the company. Just discover and share other Black businesses that are doing it right.
