This hospital (in particular, the Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute Building) is superior to the hospitals in neighboring towns. Today, I lost a beloved immediate family member who was staying at this hospital for over a month. However, the care she received and the kindness my family was shown throughout the past heart-wrenching weeks was phenomenal. While I stand firmly in my decision to give a five star review, I'd like to point out that hospital security is an area that could use significant improvement. To visit patients, all that is needed is to state the patient's name/room number, and a visitor sticker is given. Anyone can walk right up to the room, no questions asked. Sometimes, people just walk right past the desk and no one questions it. Everyone who enters a space with vulnerable patients should need to sign in and provide proof of identification, at the very least. The hospital also could use visible security guards (especially during late night hours). I felt uncomfortable walking alone from the hospital to my car in the parking lot during the night, after staying with family member in palliative care. It was a ghost town; there was no one to be found at the front desk, in the lobby, outside of the building entrance, or in/around the parking lot/garage. With that said, feel confident in taking your loved ones to this hospital to ensure that they are receiving thorough, top quality medical care.

Back in March 2020, I came down with Covid-19. I was in the hospital on a ventilator for two months. Due to constant coughing afterwards, I developed an umbilical hernia. I went to a surgeon who needed cardiac clearance for surgery. I had an echocardiogram performed and it revealed an obvious problem with the way my heart was beating. The following morning I was sent by a 911 ambulance to Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute. I was then referred to Dr. John Cosmi who ordered several cardiac tests for a definitive diagnosis, such as a Cardiac CT Scan and a Cardiac Catheterization. While staying at Gagnon, Dr. Cosmi was very thorough in order to find an accurate diagnosis of my heart condition. He was also very kind and thoughtful as he and his associates treated me. I felt as though I was staying at a five-star hotel! My assigned room was immaculate and beautiful with huge three-quarter windows just peeking at the white clouds on the fifth floor and I also watched the rescue helicopters land on the building next door. In addition, everyone who came to my room was very professional and friendly; the entire staff, doctors, nurses, aides, housekeeping and meal delivery as they extended a warm welcome. I must also rave about the meal service...My name appeared on the room TV screen, requesting that I call a designated number to place a food order for each meal, ordered from a delicious cardiac-based menu. I was at this beautiful facility for five consecutive days and would go again in a HEARTBEAT!

All I need to say is that Dr. Stephen Winters is the best cardiologist in NJ, maybe anywhere. He is patient, learned, compassionate, responsive, and a thoroughgoing gentleman. He is generous with his time and takes a personal interest in his patients. He is what all doctors--especially specialists-ought to aspire to be. Highly and enthusiastically recommended.
