I always have a wonderful experience when I go to Ama Hair Braiding Salon. There's only one lady that I go to, to have my hair done. I have been going there for over a decade now, and when I need my hair braided, or a sew in, and now just the other day I had Faux Locs crocheted in, Ama is where I go. I am always very happy when I leave there. There's no other braiding salon that I will go to, as the technician that does my hair is fast, doesn't braid your hair so tight that it's being pulled out, and is very professional. And their prices are very reasonable as well.So on that note, I highly recommend Ama Hair Braiding Salon to anyone who is looking to have their hair...read full review

I've been getting my hair braided for 26 years and have experienced strong braiders with basic skills and braiders with artistic skills. The difference is an artistic braider can hear your request and own it and make it stunning even if it's not exactly like the picture. Ama is a solid braider with basic skills. She braids fast and parts well. When I've come in she tends to be the only braider. Some issues..... she overbooks.... I called and was told she didn't have any availability the day I wanted. That was fine so I asked when she was available, she told me the day and at 12 and would tell me the price once she saw my hair length. I showed up 20 minutes early and she had someone in her chair who looked like they were an hour from being done. No biggie... but when I came in she said she had someone booked for 1pm. I reminded her we spoke over the phone and I came in at this time because she was the one who told me she was available at that time. I waited in case her 1pm didn't show. It worked out and I got my hair done. But the lady in the chair said I wasn't the first person she had overbooked that day. I tend to ask for invisible box braids and she often starts out with large parts from the back to smaller parts as she makes her way to the front of my head. It's a trick to reduce doing more braiding... I've asked her not to do this, but she continues to do this each time. It does come out nice enough, so I keep going since there aren't many other braiding places in the area. The prices for me are a bit steep for not being willing to do equal parts and braiding the full length. My last style was boxed invisible braids to my chin, she charged 160.... Box braids down to your butt/waist tend to be 180+ in other places.... Overall fast braider, decent parting but not skilled in doing styles.

I think my multi-year search has ended. Miriam gave me a cornrow/box braid combo that lasted longer than any hair-braiding style I've ever gotten. I was very worried about my edges and shared my concerns with her. She was gentle with my edges, but effective. My edges survived the style, and I was in no pain! I went there on a week day, and the place looked well-kept. Definitely my new go-to place for natural hairstyles!
