My 9 year old daughter was having difficulty reading and comprehending text. I assumed she was falling behind because she missed most of in person 1st grade due to Covid. A summer tutor recognized that she was having difficulty tracking text. Watching her initial evaluation nearly brought me to tears watching her struggle and get frustrated. She went to therapy weekly for approximately 3 months. The change has been remarkable. She’s reading quicker. She is now able to put emotion behind the text because she’s not struggling tracking. She has become a stronger reader and it’s no longer a fight to get her to do her nightly reading. I am forever grateful that vision therapy was recommended for my daughter.
When my daughter sustained her second concussion as a cheerleader, her doctor recommended vision therapy as part of her rehabilitation process. At her evaluation appointment with Dr. Beckett, I realized that I had many of the symptoms she was going to be treated for in therapy. After an evaluation by Dr. Gallaway Beckett, it was confirmed that I too could benefit from therapy. After 12 sessions, almost all my symptoms have improved or gone away entirely - the eye strain, eye fatigue, depth perception issues and slow reading speed. This was especially exciting for me since I have a connective tissue disorder, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and we weren’t certain how my body would respond. I am grateful for this therapy and recommend it highly!
