BEWARE of contractor Brinkman & Sons of Jackson NJ. My sister had a house fire that displaced her to a hotel in March 2021. After issues with the original contractor, she and my brother-in-law contracted with Dave Brinkman in July 2021. He requested 2 deposits of $10,000, 1 in July and 1 in August. There were several back & forths regarding the scope of work in August, but finally things were thought to be set to go. Through the rest of 2021, little work was done even though there were several back & forth exchanges requesting status updates, delays, and what turned out to be excuses. My brother-in-law passed away in January 2022 from COVID and during the next almost 2 months, little to no work was done on their house even though my sister was in constant communication with Mr. Brinkman. During this entire time, she was living in a hotel, as her house was uninhabitable. In the end of February 2022, my sister made the decision to halt work as she decided to relocate out of state. I did a walkthrough with an outside contractor and found NUMEROUS out of code issues with the little work done by Brinkman & Sons. She and I started requesting reimbursement of her deposit minus any expenses incurred for work performed. As of September 2022, there has been excuse after excuse as to why Mr. Brinkman hasn't reimbursed the deposit, even after he made promise after promise at repayment. He was unable to justify expenses so we agreed to an amount minus his "estimate" of his costs thus far. For months, we would go back and forth about when my sister would be reimbursed, but there was always an "excuse" either as to why he couldn't pay or claims that he sent payment that was never received. At one point, I even suggested that he used the money for other jobs, at which time he responded that he didn't use it for other jobs, but his family was sick. So, he used OUR money for HIS personal expenses. There is currently an investigation by the Department of Consumer Affairs into this issue. So far, they've indicated that there are several business, contract, and delivery violations regarding the job he was supposed to perform and the use of deposit money. If you value your money and work quality is what you want, stay FAR away from this company.

He was very well priced, high quality, detail oriented, cleaned up and was dependable. I would highly recommend him and I would hire him again if we ever need. Very nice and communicated any details or timing very well.
