I grew up taking classes here (when it was the IKS) and even though I live out of state now, I still make a point to come to class when I'm in the area. The instructors, students, and everyone involved are awesome people and really focused on character development as well as quality martial arts instruction.

IMAS is the worthy, direct successor to the Independent Karate School at the same location. When IKS' sensei retired, the remaining black belts teamed up to continue the IKS traditions and ideals as IMAS. The instructors and the black belts that assist clearly care about their students. This is a "non-full-contact" style which provides students with plenty of instruction in Kenpo, various forms, and katas. Self defense is emphasized. Students learn about the history of the art and about good citizenship in the community. Students advance in rank as skills are acquired and tested but there's no feeling of being pushed into a schedule. Fees are nominal compared to other schools and there are no contracts locking you in. There's a welcoming atmosphere that new students may try out without obligation. My son has attended since mid 2017 initially as IKS and continues now with IMAS. He enjoys learning the new skills his instructors guide him through, and is happy with his classes. I highly recommend this school based on my experiences.

I've been a member of this institution since I was 6, which means I'm approaching nearly three decades of benefiting from this incredible community. As said by others here, I wouldn't be the person I am today without the IMAS and its predecessor, the IKS. They taught me values & skills like: humility, grit, common courtesy for all humans, basic self defense, courage in the face of fear, respect for my elders, my peers, and those I teach, how to teach effectively, public speaking, relying on physical attacks only as a last resort, and how to ensure it never gets to that point. I'm forever indebted to this school, no matter where I am in the world, I've always felt this place a second home, and just as welcome now as I was when I was 6. I can't recommend it enough - this is one of the surest ways in developing mind, body, spirit for you, your kids, and anyone else you care for. Photos of me are from the mid 90s, the rest are from 2019, to show the continuity of the school's best attributes.
