Aikido of Nebraska is the best. I have studied there for several years and can say that the chief instructor, Todd Roberts, is an excellent, knowledgeable, and patient teacher who encourages students to learn about and improve themselves as they learn about and improve their aikido techniques. Classes here are fun and challenging, and I always walk away having learned something new. Training aikido here is rewarding, The people at Aikido of Nebraska are as warm, welcoming, supportive, and without ego as Sensei Roberts is. (This part is really important for me -- I'm a woman and I cannot say the same about other martial arts studios I have tried.) The studio is clean and bright, safety is a priority, and is a great value. Lincoln is fortunate to have this hidden gem.
I have been a student at this dojo for over two years. I had studied aikido as a teenager, but after relocating I struggled to find a new place to train. I was looking for a dojo that was supportive, rigorous, and full of friendly people, and which was not too hard (machismo ahoy) or too soft (I don't want to push people over from five feet away with the power of my ki). I picked Aikido of Nebraska at random, walked in, and realized very quickly that I had found exactly what I had been looking for. I love the community I've found at the dojo, and enjoy my training immensely.
There is a saying; every journey begins with a single step. That first step most always comes with a little trepidation. I started my Aikido journey few months ago and there has been absolutely no regret. If you are looking for a school that will welcome you regardless of age, skill or ability your journey needs to begin at Aikido of Nebraska. If it is your first class or your first time meeting Sensei Roberts, you cannot help to notice that his dedication, passion and commitment to the traditional style of martial arts is unparalleled. I have studied karate before at another local dojo/school and without a doubt I made the right decision to begin training in the art of Aikido and an even smarter decision choosing to learn from Sensei Roberts. I felt welcomed the first time I came to class. I attribute this to Sensei Roberts and the environment he has created with his students. Every student helps one another with the common goal to succeed and continue to learn and grow in their study of Aikido. It truly is a unique experience which I never experienced before. You instantly get the feeling that Sensei Roberts is doing this for his love of the martial arts and not for the love of money. I encourage anyone reading this, if you are considering training in the martial arts, please do yourself a favor and begin your journey by taking that first step in our dojo
