I had been bringing both of our dogs here for just over a year when this happened. One of our dogs seemed to develop an ear infection. I took her in, they tested, sure enough there was an infection. Before I brought her in, even with the infection, she had zero issues with her hearing. I was then told, "we're going to take her back and treat her." When they brought her back out her ears were full of a medication with a Vaseline type consistency. I was told it will work its way out over the next couple of weeks. No warnings about potential side effects or adverse reactions. Also, we were not given an option of this medication or traditional ear drops. Over the next few weeks, her hearing did not improve, it actually worsened. Almost two months go by and I take her back in to have them look in her ears. They were clean, no infection and no remaining medication. It has been a year since this happened, her hearing never returned. I called them and questioned them on it. Sure enough, they are no longer able to get this medication compounded, and the veterinarian who oversaw this case has since left the hospital. I was asked, "why didn't you bring her in if she was showing discomfort?" I responded with no one mentioned hearing loss as a possible side effect. Plus her ears were full of a thick medication. Of course she would be shaking her head and scratching at her ears. That was it, no accountability, no responsibility taken. I cannot stress enough to not take your pet to this vet.
I have brought my pets to this clinic on a number of occasions (not all of them happy ones) and I am ALWAYS impressed with their bedside manner and how thoughtfully they have planned out their procedures for the comfort of the animals and the humans they own. I will be a loyal customer for years. My only complaint is how hard it is to get an appointment and how long the wait is.
Our chinchilla had an eye infection that our local vets couldn't get a handled. Dr Winning consulted via phone and email as a back-up, and we finally made the 75 mile trip for our girl to see Dr Winning. We were treated well, and our Zoe was treated with not only love and kindness, but the expertise of an exotic animal vet that is rare in this area. (The next closest exotic animal vet is in the Twin Cities area.) We were given options on her care based on not just what was going on but on our budget as well. We were never pushed to be more or less aggressive, but felt like we had a a partner in her care. When we came to the place no pet parent wants to come to, we were fully supported by not only Dr Winning, but by every member of the staff from the vet tech to the front desk. Dr Winning and by extension, Valley Veterinary Hospital, has gained our trust with our fur babies. They are now the high bar by which we will measure any future vet interaction.
