Put On The B.R.A.K.E.S. is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching safe driving practices to teenage drivers and their parents. Founded by former NHRA drag racing star Doug Herbert after the tragic loss of his sons, the program aims to prevent injuries and save lives on the road. Participants in the program learn valuable skills and techniques for handling various driving situations, including emergency maneuvers. The program has received positive feedback from both parents and teens, who praise its comprehensive approach and effectiveness. Many parents share stories of their children using the skills learned in the program to stay safe in real-life situations, like recovering from a tire blowout. The course at venues like Bristol Motor Speedway features amazing instructors who are fun, personable, and engaging. Parents highlight how their young drivers, like one participant who corrected a slip in the rain using techniques learned just minutes earlier, are better prepared for real-world scenarios. Supporters believe that this type of training should be mandatory in all driver's education courses to ensure the safety of all road users. The program's popularity and impact underscore its importance in promoting responsible driving habits among young people.
