My name is Gwendolyn Smith. I have worked in the medical field for over 45 years. I can't account experiences others may have had at Maxillofacial Oral Surgery in Chapel Hill NC. I can ONLY speak from my experience. Just as we have different views and opinions about hotel and life in general. I was very impressed with my appointment with Dr. Matthews. While he could have said my issues were severe enough for surgery, he advised in fact, they were not. I really appreciated his honesty.What I'm not AT ALL happy about is the fact that a gentleman working very closely with Dr. Matthews in trying to assist my getting in to see the Dr. as soon as possible, left me with a very bad taste in my mouth.This man (whom I believe to be a scheduler) advised my Primary Care Physician that (I suppose in his mind) could have done more to help myself. I came in for a cleaning and an exam and that was fine. However, when I paid in full upon leaving I asked that the treatment be submitted to my health insurance, which reimburses me for a portion of the cost and also kicks over into a medical savings plan reimbursement. The Dental Faculty Practice had done this in the past. Months later I discovered that the Practice had not forwarded the treatment to my insurance. I called, and after quite a bit of switching around and lengthy conversation to find the treatment date and the particular charges, the staff member said that the charges would be forwarded to my insurance at that time.
