Very informative paleontologist gives a lecture in the van while on our way to the site. Once at the dig site, they show us how to tell the difference between rocks and fossils. We could see some of the areas that had started to unearth. They put plaster around the fossils found to keep them safe and intact so they could eventually get them back to their lab. They had a partially exposed hadrosaurus femur that was fairly large. It was a super fun adventure. Unfortunately for me, I left my wide brimmed hat in our car so I had to stop digging every so often and go to the van for water and shade. I got a bad sunburn. So don't forget your hats! We were there in August of 2024 and I still have a scar on my nose and it's now mid December. Our 16 year old son loved doing the hands on digging and was happy to find some small fossils...but we couldn't take them home. For good reasons. The museum had some fascinating fossils on display as well a view of the closed off lab area with projects they were working. A fairly delicate procedure. They were awesome guides and teachers.
Very kid friendly. My grandson and I have a wonderful time learning and finding dinosaur bones, egg shells. Our guide was amazing. Also, the beauty of the area was amazing with the Rocky Mountains in the back.
Thank you for helping me, my grandson's dream, come true.
My wife and I had an awesome trip to The Montana Dinosaur Center! We did the half-day fossil dig site tour expedition followed by a museum tour. Our guides Bryce and Boden were friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to answer our questions (we had a ton for them). I would highly recommend TMDC to any lifelong dinosaur enthusiasts out there, it was an exciting and fulfilling experience!
