Made my first stop at J & R Barbershop yesterday. It won’t be my last. I finally found an old fashioned men’s barbershop where there is nothing fancy but a pleasant experience, and a good haircut for a reasonable price ($20). Abby did a great job and was nice to talk with. It’s now my regular spot!
I got tired of the franchise places where they provide you with poor service, a haircut that is not what you ask for followed by trying to upsell you on their overpriced chemicals on the way out. All I want is a place that will cut my hair the way I want which leaves me satisfied. This is what I get from J&R. Not only do they provide excellent service, but it makes me glad to know that I am patronizing a business that has been a staple in my community for 50 years.
It may seem commenting on getting a haircut is pretty banal but since we live in two places (Florida in the winter/spring months and Missouri the rest), I've had the unfortunate experience of having to find a decent barber/hairstylist when in Florida. After numerous haircuts and returning home to have my wife remark how poor a haircut I got, I'm so ever grateful that when I return to Missouri and call J&R and ask if Abbey is there, I am relieved, knowing that she will listen to what I ask for which isn't much... if my hair is 4-5 inches long all I have to say is cut 2-3 inches, taper the back and I'm set and my wife remarks upon my return, "I always like your hair when they (Abbey at J&R) cuts your hair." And the price is lower than most other places I've been to in the past 20 years. They are top notch in my book...5 stars for sure!!
