We recently had to make the hardest decision, letting our oldest dog cross the rainbow bridge. Dr Sims and the team made the entire experience peaceful for us and our girl.
From the personal touches, to helping us know that it was the best decision for our dog. They were there when we needed them the most! They gave us time, space, but also just hung out and was there. A whirlwind of emotions and they were so warm and kind.

They recommend treatment options but don’t pressure you into treatments you can’t afford. Dr. Locke is the best. He really is the kindest, gentlest vet I’ve ever met. He sits on the ground & lets our small dogs approach him rather than trying to pick them up. Has been very helpful in managing our anxious pups. “I wouldn't go anywhere else! Dr. H and his staff dote over my babies every time we go! More importantly, every time I call, they go beyond to make sure to have an appointment time for us! We live 1 hour away. We built a house east of Blue Springs, but I continue to make that drive to be with a team that cares! Pricing is right in line with animal science and you can always choose what you approve. We boarded our kitties there while out of town for a major trip, the outgoing cat was able to go "work" in the back room and he loved it. The skittish cat had no signs of being upset for being left a week. That says a lot in my eyes. One particular aspect of this office... they will not immediately steer you to expensive diagnostics. If your baby might have an inflamed intestinal condition, they will just help correct the diet and treat the symptoms as needed. Other businesses are quick to do intestinal biopsy and ultrasounds. Sure that might be your choice to do, but I like how practical the team is. My kitty with the intestinal issue lived to be 20 years old, and he was supported through old age with fluids, and b-12 shots as needed. Those last years could have cost me thousands of dollars, but we got the standard of care that he would receive anyway. Our rescue skittish kitty had stomatitis 4 years ago. The remedy is removal of the molars. The staff quoted us $1200 as standard estimate. We paid it and came to pick her up the next day. The staff corrected our bill and refunded us $400 because the surgery did not take as long as expected and since she was young, the removal was not complicated. They saved her life! Not only by knowing how to treat her, but they offered an option to euthanasia. Kitty is still sassy and happy today. When we got our new puppy, Dr. H was my first stop on the way home! The cuddles and loves for new babies are so genuine! Dr.H took the time to educate me, the cat mom, on how to raise my puppy. I'm so grateful!“

“We've been going to northland animal hospital since 2020 but needed a prescription filled for my 14 year old dog and when I called them to check the status was told they no longer have a vet on staff. They suggested I contact Barry Road Animal Hospital. I called Saturday morning and they squeezed me in that day so our prescription didn't lapse. Starting with the phone call, Melissa was very kind and helpful. Dr. Ruiz gave my dog the most thorough exam my dog has ever received and listened to all our concerns regarding our aging dog. Her approach was very methodical and her treatment plan was very well thought out. Because we were changing vets, the exam was complimentary. I wasn't expecting that and feel that she went above and beyond a typical checkup. I would've happily paid for the exam and additional personal care, but left only paying for medications. I don't know what's going on with northland animal hospital, but I'm grateful that I've found Barry Road AH. We've found a new vet for our dog and any future pets. I can't thank Melissa, Dr. Ruiz, the vet assistant, and the other vet that was there enough for helping us during the uncertainty occurring at our previous clinic.“
