Well first off my husband DIED there. Longer version, first he got esophagus cancer back in Nov 2024. only got that because for decades he fed on ant acids for heartburn and eventually was put on prescription strength ant acids. Well folks that is the polar OPPOSITE of what you SHOULD do for heartburn. That is add MORE acid not less. So the bubbling acid, still too strong for the esophagus, eventually caused the cancer. Well he BEAT it. YEA. they did good there. BUT. IN hindsight, we might not have gone the radiation route. As a life time smoker who only just quit in Sept, still had his smokers cough, well that got much much worse after the cancer treatment. NOW he was diagnosed with emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis. The emphysema he probably had for years but the fibrosis was a new thing and there is no cure. Some promising research into stem cells but you have to go to CHINA to get that. America cannot do research anymore. We got too stupid in this county for that. They claim they don't know what sparks that, some non smokers get it. BUT that radiation so close to the lung probably had a roll in making it advance suddenly and fast. Had to get oxygen for him. He was doing ok at least. Lastly, he took a fall and broke his leg bone, needed hip replacement. Was scheduled for a 5pm surgery, my daughter and I both got there around 1, she really wanted to ask about putting someone under with such damaged lungs. See if there wasn't another way. Might not be but we never even got the chance to ask. We got there HOURS before he was to go under and he was already in recovery. WTH? That alone could have been tragic and worth suing over. But surgery it seems went well. THEN they found a small clot, put him on blood thinners. Fluid built up in the lungs, "common after surgery" I was told, diuretics to drain fluid. Some mystery infection took them several days to pin down, put him on the specific antibiotic to fix that. Meds to raise his BP after all the other meds dropped it too low. He had at least 7 IVs going at one point. In the ICU for over a week. BUT the doctor was "optimistic." Until the 23rd of Sept when we came for our daily visit he was on 100% forced oxygen, huffing and puffing like he just ran a race. Still alert, smiling when my daughter gave him one of her home made cookies, but then we were taken aside and it was explained that nothing they are doing is working. Do we keep trying or put him on "pain management" (morphine) Well when we explained this to him, he pulled his own oxygen thing off his face and just slipped away right then. He pulled his own plug. So now, billing. We have medicare and humana BUT.... I NEED TO SEE EACH ITEM on a bill. What exactly was charged for what, how much did each insurance pay, and what is left. Is that asking too much? A car mechanic can do that. NOT Corewell health, oh no. THEN I actually got two checks from Corewell. "Overpayment." For what exactly who knows. No one could tell me. AND those checks were cut in Oct. TO HIM. But he DIED in Sept. They can't get ALL the bills together and see IF they owe us or the other way around? OH NO. First billing goes directly to their collection agency. Not as a "bad debt" just how they do things. REALLY? They cannot afford to have their own billing department? So I contact the right person, explain I want ITEMIZED BILLS or pound sand. I'm not just sending money off to "you owe...." with no mention of what for. So get this folks. Today I get my mail, there are no fewer than FIFTY THREE SEPARATE ENVELOPES IN THERE FROM COREWELL. Just the time needed to OPEN each piece let alone be sure we aren't being double billed isn't that worth MY TIME? Should I bill THEM???? It wasn't hard enough to bring in my husbands "death cert." To the bank just to deposit those checks? I say the patient DIED. And in no small part because of DECADES OF bad medical advice. They failed to provide a good or service. I won't even go into the horrible care WHILE checked

If it was possible to give zero stars I would. Where do they find these rude people for their substandard care? It's unreal. Zero class and no work ethic. It doesn't matter what shift it is. And what about the filth? It's disgusting Jill the tech in ER had the ugliest personality I've ever seen. I wouldn't bring my dog here. It's that bad. Head to Kalamazoo if you can.

Substandard care even for a community hospital. Surgeons are not qualified to perform many of the procedures that they provide and are too arrogant to admit their lack of ability and refer patients to a larger academic hospital with competent practitioners. ICU unit was very dirty. My father walked in for a surgery that should have been laproscopic but the surgeon basically cut him in half. He spent months in the ICU for a leak in his digestive tract which they couldn't find. He developed sepsis and nearly died several times. He never recovered from his surgery. He was unable to eat or drink for over a year. It was a heartbreaking experience for the entire family. He passed away from the various complications as a result of the many procedures he endured. They finally found the hole in his digestive system when he was scoped beyond where any issues should be. His surgeon perforated his intestine but he was so emaciated and ill by this time that he was beyond hope. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this health-care system.
