l am a RN and had a HORRIBLE experience at the Skin and Vein Center in Fenton after an extremely large lipoma (softball size) was removed from my left side. Blayne Baggett, PA indicated he had removed many that were much larger, but after the removal he admitted it was more difficult than he thought it would be. He said I needed to keep it wrapped tight because it was likely to form a hematoma due to the large void it had left. They did not provide that wrap, so I immediately purchased one and kept it on until my follow up appointment. A painful hematoma did develop and upon my return visit he wanted to open me back up again and as he said, and “pop it like a pimple". I was not comfortable with that because they injected me at least 50 times to numb the area the first time and never bothered to use sterile gloves during the surgery. My husband was in the room while it was done the first time and witnessed this. Neither of us were comfortable having him doing anything else because of the initial experience. I was extremely lucky I didn't get an infection because Blayne had his hands inside the large incision without using non-sterile gloves to remove pieces of the lipoma that did not come out. I went to Mclaren ER in Clarkston and they had to transfer me to Mclaren Pontiac to take care of it. The ER Dr's were shocked that a drain tube was not placed as the surgery was absolutely destined to fail because the mass was so large. Blayne Baggett took on more than he could handle, especially since he is only a PA, did this surgery without a physician present and it was not done in a sterile setting. $5k later I am fine and healed. The Drs in Pontiac were professional and caring. They aspirated the blood out for underneath the incision, instead of “popping it like a pimple.” I wrote a certified letter to SVC with pictures and all my bills to simply ask that they take care of these expenses that were a result of their negligence. We even went in after two weeks of hearing nothing and Heather at the front desk was nice and said they had received the info. She indicated there had been a delay because the office manager Steve Seiger was out of the country. We agreed to wait until he returned, but we still heard NOTHING. I left messages on his voicemail several times, again, nothing. It would cost us more than $5k to hire a medical malpractice attorney and since I did not sustain permanent damage, personal injury lawyers do not want to take it on. SVC knows this and figures we will go away. Steve Seiger finally got back with us, 2 months later, and his response was that the medical director, Dr Eric Seiger MD, founder of SVC, said that I was overcharged at the hospital and to “take it up with them” SHAME ON YOU! As I stated, I’m an RN. It’s very sad to think anyone would be treated this way, let alone a medical professional. I would never, ever recommend this center to anyone!!
