As an IT person I have worked with many accountants in Bath, Brunswick, and Portland. What I have seen (as I keep computers, services, and security working for multiple firms is that John Woollacott Accounting has the highest client retention, the best value for $ spent of any accounting firm, and they primarily work by referral. The office is informal. The accountants are "laid back" in terms of personality, and they have a focus on extremely accurate tax preparation which is to say they maximize legally deductible expenses, but only to the point where red flags are not raised by the IRS. I highly recommend them, especially for small to medium business which is a specialty of theirs.
