Fearing the worst, I searched my trusty Haynes repair manual for ignition lock removal. Yikes! Remove airbag, remove steering wheel, additional labor just to get at the thing. Big bucks!When I called early on a Saturday morning, Cal asked several specific questions. He thought a key replacement might do the trick . Said he would have to call back to schedule arrival. 45 minutes later I got a text - he was on his way!Cal took one look, said the key was very worn. Proceeded to cut a new Toyota key. There’s a chip under the rubber end. He showed me how the new key would turn the ignition, crank the starter, but the engine wouldn’t start. He then programmed the new key. Bingo! And proceeded to make a second key. He alsofixed a balky driver’s door lock I didn’t even notice was bad. All at a modest price, a fraction of what a dealer would charge.Cal’s truck - a rolling shop and office- has multiple cutting machines, hand held (specialty) and laptop computers and tons of parts. Cal is a gentleman who put up with my questions, explained every step he took, and verified all was working. His careful diagnostic approach, knowledge and experience is impressive.
