To me fairness is fundamental. To start with the positive is my standing practice. In the case of this practice, I have nothing positive to say. I am being treated for complications from a terrible accident. There were insurance changes. I saw a number of GIs to treat those complications. The ER referred me to Dr. Gupta. They scheduled a future appointment. I asked the scheduler to fit me in in the event of a cancellation. Thursday, I got a call for a Friday cancelation. I took the appointment. Diane the Office Manager then called and told me that they did not take my insurance. Diane said she did not want me to be angry about a large bill. I had a call with Diane and a patient advocate from United Health. Diane said she never signed a contract for that plan. I'm a bit surprised if office managers have that kind of authority. United said that this practice was in network. Diane said I had seen Dr. Gupta's partner Dr. Bakshi so Dr. Bakshi was my doctor with that practice and that Dr. Bakshi was out of town. I thought they were supposed to cover for each other. Diane said I had seen too many doctors. I told her that was due to insurance changes. Diane rudely said: "That's not my problem." President Obama said: "Let me be clear. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you like your plan you can keep your plan." Apparently not. I had not seen Dr. Bakshi. I saw the physician's assistant. The primary I was seeing at the time due to an insurance change was not happy about that. Dr. Gupta did not take the insurance I had at the time so I saw Dr. Bakshi. Dr. Bakshi delegated it to the physician's assistant. Diane would find any excuse for her bosses not to see me. Patients and plans keep her bosses in business and she is just plain nasty.
I have not been impressed by this practice at all. I was referred here by a current doctor, but it's been a nightmare! My first visit, I needed to postpone due to a work emergency. I was told I could do a video visit instead. I downloaded the app and filled out all the necessary informtion. No link was ever sent. I called the office and got their lunchtime voicemail. I called 8 times, up until closing and still only received the voicemail. I called the next day and was told I was a no-show. I explained how I never received a link and I they said the doctor doesn't see patients vurtually on Tuesdays so they never would have scheduled that. Execpt THEY DID! I was able to provide the name of the person who scheduled it thanks to the app and was able to avoid a no show fee. Thank goodness. Now today is the day of my rescheduled appointment. It was supposed to be a 15-minute video appointment at 12:30. It is not 1pm and I have yet to be seen. I am at my work office waiting to begin. It is very frustrating. The communication is severely lacking and there seems to be no care given to patient time.
I would give zero stars, but the lowest that can be provided is 1. How Dr. Gupta works is that you are going to need some expensive procedures. When you arrive for the procedures, you'll get a print out, but will not be permitted to speak with the doctor. After the procedures, you're going to pay again for an office visit. At the office visit, he will read from another piece of paper, which you could have received as a print out and read for yourself. If you ask questions, this will be viewed negatively. If he cannot figure out your problem, he will get frustrated and be rude to you and tell you your visit is over. He did not wish to answer questions and when confronted with a different opinion from another medical doctor he said the visit was over. I think this practice is a money making machine with procedures, but very low on professionalism. He was not willing to consult with another physician or follow up on the physicians request and recommendation. Further Dr. Gupta had very little interest in actually figuring out what the problem is after the expensive procedures were completed. I found him to be sexist and completely unprofessional. However, I see that some of the other 1 star reviews are from individuals who are not female, so maybe he is just unprofessional to all. If you already had the misfortune and displeasure to have been treated by this doctor and received inferior treatment you can file a complaint with the Maryland Board of Physicians by going to or calling 410-764-4777. I'm sure my complaint will not be the first or the last, but perhaps if more reports are made, action will be taken to correct the serious problems with his less than professional practice.
