Moved near the park during the winter after having seen the park when I visited in the fall. I felt disappointed during the middle of the winter months. But.... It was winter. It was a year and a half into the pandemic. The park wasn't a priority. Then, I remember just months later that conversations with friends about ways to improve the park were being implemented. The entrances were getting facelifts. Some of the illogical paths were being laid out better and in a more practical and aesthetically pleasing way. Many new trees were planted. The basketball courts were upgraded, the dog park was packed, events were happening and exciting and culturally varied. The maintenance in general was back to full operation. It's become a top class city park. Still with room to grow and improve (port-a-potties? Really?), but many of these improvements are directly due to Friends of Patterson Park. "Friends" and the neighborhoods and neighbors should all be proud of the efforts and the significant impact that has resulted.
