“As a Latina with coiled curls, I’ve spent the majority of my life visiting Dominican owned hair salons, setting my hair in rollers blowing it out in the winter months, keeping it curly in the summer. A process that was both lengthy and exhausting because I struggled with the humidity keeping it straight and moisturized when curly. Not sure what I was doing wrong and desperately needed a change. Just happened to stumble upon Texture Salon and the experience has been life changing. “Andrew has been an absolute superstar! I'm often looking to completely change my hairstyle and he's met those requests with excitement instead of apprehension. He's also done a great job with both hair transitions he's worked on with me! To be honest I can't afford his haircuts but I keep going to him because he's the only person in the city that I trust with non-standard hairstyles across the gender spectrum.

Edit: My last couple haircuts have been quite disappointing. I tried to convince myself the haircuts were okay. But the lines in my hair were uneven both times and I asked for layers both times and he cut my hair all to the same length both times. Since he didn't give me layers the first time, I asked him to cut my hair short if he needed to for layers the second time around. This time again he cut my hair all to one length, but this time shorter. I would trust him completely with masculine hairstyles but I don't think I'm ever going back for a hairstyle with any femme components. The last couple appointments also felt more rushed and like he didn't have the time or energy to spend on the haircut and just wanted it out of the way, so all in all, I'm probably on the lookout for a new hairstylist.. :(“

“I'm tempted not to leave a review so this can remain a hidden gem, but what a disservice that would be to Sue!!! This was my first time getting my haircut here and it was by far the best cut I've gotten in Boston, especially considering the price (~$20 less than the going rate for a women's cut in the city). She was so friendly, chatty, and had a same day appointment when I called on a Tuesday morning. I told her just a little bit about what I wanted for my hair and she absolutely nailed it. The rapport I saw between her and the customer before me was lovely, and the waves she gave to a few customers who passed her window during my cut were heartwarming. 10/10 would recommend even though I want to keep this sweet salon all to myself!“

“I can not say enough wonderful things.
I started wearing wigs 3 months ago. Went to a reputable wig store and got a fairly good wig. I got no advice or guidance. They also did not offer wig cutting services. When I got home and played with it I discovered the wig had a fair amount of permatease. I have found that I dont like it at all. I do not mean to slam that feature. I always had thin, fine hair. So this was just not me. No return. I am stuck with a wig I probably will not wear. $$$

I popped in to North Shore Hair and Wigs. I did not have an appointment and had zero expectations. Kristen was able to give me a few minutes between appointments. I was worried I was cutting into her lunch. I had an appointment at a nearby hospital and saw their sign.

I got so much information, pertinent to my needs, from Kristen in that 10-15 minutes. I did not purchase a wig at that time. She offered to call me and answer some more questions to get me on the right track. I really appreciated that she was not going to inconvenience her scheduled customer. I like that too.

I can not even begin to say how great I feel about doing business here. I am from 2 states away and it is worth the drive to me!!!! Kristen is ordering a wig I settled on and I will drive down when it comes in. I feel so much better informed and I understand the "lingo" for what I want in the future.

Review update. The wig came in a few weeks later. Kristen called because she was concerned that it was not the color profile I was looking for. I had wanted a slightly darker blond than the one I had tried on. The darker one has red tones that I did not want. I so appreciated that she remembered that I had to drive quite a distance. She ordered the original color.

I love it. I feel prettier than I had in a long time. Theblighter color pushed me out of my comfort zone. She did not push at all. I decided it was right for me. A week or so later and I love, love, love my new hair. Idoubt I will go anywhere else in the future.

“I just had my 2nd appointment at Expressions with Lina, and needed to take the time to write a review because my hair and experience were just that good. I am a city girl that has come to the burbs (love/hate), but finding city quality without having to cross the bridge is my mission, and exressions nails it. SUMMARY:Product wise they are super high end (back bar and for sale) which is a must, but not necessarily hard to find. The second part, which Lina and her co-owner both nail, is continuing education without being in the city, and pairing that with a solid hair background and history so that the trends are achievable but the integrity of your hair is maintained! MY EXPERIENCE: I came to Lina with 12 week grown out roots (I'm a level 5 and have a level 10 color block in the front), and needed a new hairdresser after my regular had a long term injury. She took the project on, but most importantly treated every piece of hair on my head like it was in the front. I had a band from leaving my roots for so long, and during my 2nd appointment she and her co-owner lovingly corrected it, even though Lina had a flight to catch for a familly emergency, they worked together and made my hair absolutely perfect. They also provided honest feedback about a longterm plan for my hair while achieving exactly what I wanted in the meantime. I couldn't be more pleased and I am so happy to have one less errand to run in the city so I can spend time complaining about the suburbs!“

Curly hair is tough to work with, but she does it so effortlessly and made it look so natural that even months after my hair painting service I’m still getting so many compliments. “I would like to respond to "Neil P" review. I remember it clearly because to be honest it was the first time something like that ever happened. This gentleman came into the salon with no appointment on a Saturday. Anyone knows a Salon's busiest day is on a Saturday. The Salon was extremely busy and yes he did sit and wait a bit before someone greeted him. We assumed he was waiting for someone because he NEVER approached the reception desk. When we did a visual cross reference with our clients and realized he was not with anyone, we asked if we could help him and he said he would like a haircut..We were completely booked but willing to accommodate, so we told him he could come back and we would get him in. He did come back and he did wait because he was being squeezed in and yes Tony was chatting away with his clients and taking his time because that's the type of barber that he is. He takes his time and gives the client what they pay for. Technically this 1 star review is actually in our favor because he said it just right. "Taking our time and chatting with our client."
