“After purchasing a condominium in a historic South End brownstone built in 1900, I soon discovered that despite all the turn-of-the-century beauty my new residence offered, it was woefully short on storage space. Thanks to Gary Barcus at GB Woodworking, that's no longer a problem. Gary designed and constructed a beautiful and functional floor-to-ceiling built-in wall unit in my living room. The unit spans the length of an entire wall, and includes wooden cabinets, glass-front display cabinets and open bookshelves. It was very important to me that the unit not be plain or generic, but that it maintain the elegant details of the early 1900s that are found throughout the brownstone. Gary listened carefully to my wishes, took measurements, then shortly thereafter, submitted to me a hand-drafted design that perfectly reflected what I envisioned. I approved the design, and he began the process of constructing the wall unit in his workshop. He used the highest-quality wood, glass, hardware and paint, and kept me informed of his progress along the way. After several months, the wall unit was finished and ready for installation. Gary and his apprentice delivered the components of the unit to my brownstone, then spent several days painstakingly assembling and installing it. They had to build around a fireplace in the center of the wall, and they did so seamlessly. Their attention to detail was meticulous, and the final result was spectacular. If I didn't know better, I'd think the wall unit was part of the brownstone's original 1900 construction. It's not just an addition to the room - it's part of the room. Gary is as much an artist and designer as he is a carpenter. I am beyond pleased with the quality of his work, and I enthusiastically recommend him to all who could benefit from his expertise.“

The woman who assisted us was very friendly and helpful. The owner let us borrow the paint sample for a few hours to match paint for our trim which was appreciated. The piece took longer than we originally thought, but because of COVID, I do not blame the store. I would absolutely use them again for my next project.“
