    I think the grounds could be better kept. I recently went to a funeral and the burial site in the Mattapan area. I couldn't help but compare. Where is the thick. green grass nicely mowed???

    Have been visiting this cemetery for over 40 years and have always been impressed with how well the property was maintained, until today. The grass had not been cut for at least two weeks, there was trash blowing all over the place and weeds were everywhere. It looked awful. Definitely an embarrassment for the city of Boston.

    Today my family and I went to the Ukrainian section of Mt. Hope Cemetery as we do several times a year. We were quite disappointed at how shabby the area looked. There were lots of weeds, unmowed grass, a few pieces of paper and some empty bottles. On the other hand, since it was Memorial Day, the small flags were placed in those areas reserved for the military. The grass was cut, and everything else was as neat as a pin. Perhaps the landscapers who took such great care of THESE graves and areas, with heavy viewing on a day such as today, should pay closer attention to their work in those sections where foot travel isn't so extensive. The Cemetery Division is responsible for providing burial services for City of Boston residents. The division manages burial records for over 250,000 gravesites and maintains approximately 200 acres of cemetery land. Thomas Sullivan is the General Superintendent of Cemeteries.
