To find the shop just go in the Carondelet entrance and take elevator to second floor. Shop was fantastic start to finish, Mr. Tony was very personable and took care to make sure I looked my best for my event that night. Couldn’t recommend more highly uf you prefer a small barber shop feel
Went for a shave on a Saturday, they were a bit hard to find but worth it! I entered the building on Carondelet street and took the elevator to the 2nd floor then followed signs. Susan gave me 3 hot towels, a great and close shave, expertly avoided a zit I had, massaged my fade and head while under the last towel, and even cleaned up my ear/nose/neck hair. The atmosphere was just what you want from a barbershop, leather and old music, and Tony and Susan discussing whether "the Judge" would be coming in today.
I have been seeing Tony for haircuts since 1999 and I accept no substitutes. Why do I keep coming back? (And others, who have been going to him for over 55 years!) First of all, Tony takes his time, every time, with everyone. Meaning that I never mind waiting my turn because I know he'll not stop with me until it's just right. He's old school in the best sense. Second, the hours. I'm an early bird, and getting there before the world opens up is a thing of beauty. Check with Tony the day before you want to come in early about when he's opening up. Third, the atmosphere: Tony and his colleague Susan are like family. This is a real barbershop, not a pretentious frou-frou place for douchey guys smoking cigars. Important note: while the address is at the Hancock Whitney building at 701 Poydras, the shop is on the second floor of the annex, and it's definitely best to enter from the Carondelet St. side just off of Poydras. Take the elevator just inside the door to the second floor. Parking is easier there, too. This first thing I'm doing tomorrow morning, when New Orleans opens up to some degree, will be to get my first haircut in three months with Tony.
