    I had two places to visit in the Mount Kenton Cemetery. First, Vice President Alben W. Barkley, 35th vice president of the United States under Harry S. Truman. He served from 1949 to 1953 an passed in 1956. You'll find that he has a simple plot here in the cemetery, located on Barkley Road. Note my photograph with the businesses on Lone Oak and pay tribute to this American. Second, spot the seven columns that serve as a historical monument for a since destroyed building. The marker here reads, "These columns are from the old federal building in Paducah and completed in 1885, demolished in 1937. Stored at Mt.     Mount Kenton Cemetery is a professionally owned and operated cemetery with a 100 year old history.It is also the final resting place to some very important and significant people in U. S. and Local History.Former Vice President of the United States for The Truman Administration Alben W. Barkley is buried their (the local airport is named in his honor), aka 'Veep'.And Paducah Community College Men's Basketball Coach Claude 'Sonny' Hawes (College Gym is named in his honor) is also buried their.He was the winningest basketball coach the community college ever had.In 20 years of coaching he amassed 8,000 wins and only 240 losses.
