She’s amazing. The absolute best. I have had sciatica for years but without MJ I wouldn’t be able to walk. I have come to her in excruciating pain and she has known exactly what to do and does it. She is also a delightful and kind person.
I have been an intermittent client of Mary Jo Schmitz over the last 8 years, usually for sports injuries which I have unwittingly induced in myself. Mary Jo knows anatomy and how muscles, tendons, and joints act and interact. She always amazes me with her diagnosis, which is in much more detail and accuracy than the one provided by the MD who initially saw me. I have seen 3 different MD's over the years, plus a "sports" doctor at NorthShore University Healthsystem. Their responses have been on the order of a generic understanding along with a generic recommendation, usually on the order of "Don't do anything that hurts, and if it's annoying you, take some Advil"...except for the "sports" doctor who recommended massive doses of Ibuprofen (800 mg three times a day) despite my being a "geriatric" i.e. over 65 year old male whose risk for side effects is much higher than younger persons. Ms. Schmitz's "magic" is in utilizing her knowledge to apply myofascial release and prescribe appropriate exercises to correct muscular, tendon, and joint pain. Unlike Ms. Schmitz who produces pain relief, the physical therapists at The Rehab Institute, did not pain relief and only prescribed generic exercises. If your MD prescribes PT, or you are in need of a PT, my recommendation is to seek out her services.
