Went to get box braids. I brought plenty of bundles of hair. It was supposed to take 8hrs, they finished in 3. I thought that was good until I realized that they finished so quickly because they sectioned in big parts for small braids. My hair looks so stringy, rather than the thick flowy look I was expecting. Then I was charged 250 dollars for it. Being a nonconfrontational person, I paid and left, but I'm still heartbroken at how it turned out.EDIT: After posting this review, I got a call from the owner who offered to restyle me free of charge. She also educated me on the differences between "box braids" and "knot-less braids", as well as explaining why each look the...read full review

I went to Madeline's African Hair Braiding on a whim and I'm very glad I did. I called on Saturday after perusing so many braid salons on yelp and decided to take a chance on lil ol Madeline with only two favorable reviews. I spoke with Myla (sp?) and she was very kind and informative the few minutes I did speak with her. I made an appointment with her for Sunday thinking I'm just gonna take a chance and out of desperation because my hair had become a sore spot in my life. However, I continued to look at yelp because I didn't trust my decision still to go to a salon with only two reviews. I couldn't find anything and didn't want to drive north into the city so I stuck with my appointment. Fast forward to Sunday, I got a little confused on directions, but found the salon with Myla's help (sorry if I keep screwing up your name). The salon is a small storefront....nothing to write home about, not fancy, but in a good, bright location in Riverdale. I met Myla's sister first, who has a very refreshing personality. Nice icebreaker type conversation to ensure this won't be a complete loss if my hair sucked. Haha Myla was not much of a talker, and fine by me, but man can she braid. She was very quick, answered questions as she braided along, had minimal help from her sister which I thought was very kind of her to help, but she was definitely not as experienced so it was really unneeded help. I enjoyed her philosophical conversation more. Two and a half hours later, my hair was complete and I actually really like it....I'm not one for long hair, so I'm stuck contemplating cutting. Lol Got lots of compliments today! I'm certain I'll return.
