This is an excellent school for someone who is looking to learn martial arts for the purpose of self defense and develop a stronger mind-body relationship. The main instructor is skilled in both the physical and teaching aspects of the martial arts which brings a level depth to the training that can be difficult to find in other places. The training covers striking, grappling, and weapons applications with emphasis on learning the mechanics body movement, positioning, and timing in addition to the basic movements of a given technique.I cannot recommend this school highly enough to people who are committed to learning and continuously improving their martial arts skills... read full review

Having studied a wide variety of martial arts for the past 30 years, the Midwest Academy is by far the most impressive school I have attended. There are a number of reasons for this, including: 1) After six years of training at the Midwest Academy, I continue to learn something new each and every day I train. I have never experienced anything close to this in other schools. This makes training interesting and increasingly valuable long-term. 2) The training is geared toward "real-world" applications, not sport fighting. If you want to develop situational awareness, mental toughness, and practical skills, this is the place. 3) Student safety is a high priority... read full review
