Our family lost our beloved father last week. While his death was expected it is always tragic and our family has been changed forever. Our mother went to Knapp Johnson and made his arrangements and after she left, she fell ill and ended up with emergency surgery at OSF. Our parents have 9 children, and we live all over the country so travel plans were already in place to attend our father’s funeral, and mom insisted on the service taking place on the date she picked. What none of us expected was mom would have complications and be unable to attend dad’s funeral. So, our family rallied together to honor our father. I received a call from Don Jones at Knapp Johnson, and he had a plan he wanted to put into place with our permission. After mom agreed he went to work to make his plan happen. He reached out to OSF and with their permission he transported our father to OSF so mom could say her final goodbye. It’s evident that Don Jones, Aleah and the entire Knapp Johnson team demonstrated exceptional professionalism and empathy, allowing our family to honor our father in a meaningful and respectful way. This is a testament to their dedication to providing compassionate and personalized service to families during their most vulnerable moments. Our family appreciated Don’s suggestions and guidance that led us through planning and the final services including a military service and arranging for a not-for-profit caterer. A family saying goodbye to a 99-year, seven-month and one-day year old father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather is never easy.
