“Working with Joel and Unique Deck Builders has been one of the best construction project experiences we're ever experienced. We had to have our deck torn apart and removed to fix a bad roof on a small condo building in Chicago. Joel removed the existing deck and salvaged as much of the materials (mostly outdoor kitchen equipment) as possible, and then entirely rebuilt our rooftop with new Deckorators composite decking and the salvaged items. The finished product is beautiful and much better than what it was before, which had been done by a different rooftop builder originally. All of Joel's team was great to work with! They were all pleasant, fun, interactive, and willing to modify what they were doing to meet both our expectations and their own of themselves. Lastly, Joel himself has been fabulous to work with. He made many stops here before we started to make sure he had a good grasp of what was wanted/needed, and then periodically along the way as the project progressed. I feel that he not only was a contractor, but that we became friends along the way as well.

I would highly recommend using Unique Deck builders for any deck or rooftop project you might be considering. I think you'll end up with a great finished product and had a fun time doing it as well.“

“We had an architect design a 500 sq. ft. single story mother-in-law suite to add onto the back of our house. I got three bids from contractors in the area. I have experience in the construction industry as a project manager, so I am familiar with the design/build process.Working on the design and details with *** Shrago was a delight. While we ultimately decided not to go ahead with the construction due to my mother-in-law's health, I would have hire him and his team in a heartbeat. I will list the reason why I would hire *** and his team for any home construction project.1. *** lives in our community and has been building here for well over twenty years. He is well regarded by his competitors.2. He was straightforward with managing customer expectations. He was timely and responsive, brought every member of the trade onsite to ensure they gave accurate estimates for the work.3. He properly priced the entire project. In the construction industry, often time issues are left out of bids in order to secure the work. Contractors will inevitably include change orders as a way of re-capturing costs that were not addressed. The other contractors I solicited bids from did this, and it was clear that the bids were not "apples to apples". *** captured every line item in the process from start to finish and it was refreshing to be presented with an accurate, comprehensive proposal. 4. *** uses proper project management software and shares the process, timelines and cost estimates directly with the client via a web portal. This is the sign of a competent builder. Too many renovation or new construction projects wind up disappointing the client due to a failure to meet deadlines. I had no doubt that our construction would have been carefully tracked and any delays (which are common in construction scheduling) incorporated into the process.Anecdotally, *** built two of our friend's houses and they are extremely happy with his work.“
