If you need help this is definitely the best place in the state of Illinois for sure. Case worker Anita and Director Ruth are Angels and RSAs Tonya, Shay, Candace and Sam are beautiful souls that treat the residents with respect. Much love.

I truly advise that if anyone is seeking help dont be obscure from the low rating...Just ask for Anita's help if you need it. Her heart is sooo big and beautiful no matter how bright the sun shines she is capable of making your day so much BRIGHTER!!! God bless her caring soul!!! Amen!

I am a resident at Decatur Manor. This isn't the worst place to be, but it certainly has it's problems. I'll start by detailing the positives, then finish with the serious negatives that lead me to rate this facility only two stars. The staff here is a mix. Those who spend time with the residents, mainly the CNAs, housekeeping, maintenance, dietary, and the activities aides, are mostly wonderful people. The director, Ruth, is a fair and compassionate woman, who works hard to provide a stable, home-like atmosphere, while maintaining a respectable level of safety for all residents. The social workers, our main access to services and such outside the facility, are a mixed bunch as well. Some go far above and beyond, others seem overworked and burned out, and one seems nearly untrained. Dietary tries to provide decently healthy meals, with a fairly wide variety most of the time, then other times we'll have hot dogs 3-4 times in one week. Some days they cook enough for everyone to get seconds or thirds, some days they run out of things before the end of the line. Some days I'm last in line and the food is still hot, more often I'm in the middle and it's luke warm or cold. No one goes hungry, but it does get old. Like many things at Decatur Manor, there is very little consistency. Many members of the staff do not follow the rules concerning resident privacy. The personal details I know about other residents is astounding, and deeply unsettling. I have witnessed verbal abuse, most often in the form of humiliating treatment towards those too sick to do anything to stand up for themselves. Other times, it's staff members that are overworked, tired, and burned out with dealing with the mentally ill, who go off and scream at residents. I have witnessed many staff members falsifying paperwork. filling out hall check sheets while sitting at a table in the dining room, making up false shower sheets, to cover up the fact they never helped someone shower like they are supposed to, etc. Many residents are waiting on doctor's appointments, and referrals to outside services that I'm beginning to suspect might never happen. The psychologist, Dr, Patil knows next to nothing about his patients. Over a hundred at this facility, and I'm told there are many more outside of here. I have been here going on three months, and I've met him once. We spoke for about two minutes, probably less than that. He also refused to explain my new diagnosis to me. I'm told he is the most competent psychologist available in Decatur, Il. This is either untrue, or deeply sad. Meds are often "borrowed", by the nursing staff, from one resident to give to another, leaving the first without from time to time. Other times, they are apparently lost or misplaced somehow. I was told by two staff members that I would be unable to get a therapist while living here, that my Medicaid would not cover it. Later, after giving up on my social worker setting up an appointment, I went to the local mental health clinic myself and found out that this was untrue. Upon arriving, I wanted to leave almost immediately, which probably wasn't a great decision, but I was lied to and told I would need Ruth, the director, and Dr. Patil, the psychologist, to sign off on my release. So I waited until Monday to see Ruth, only to be informed that I could have signed out "AMA", or against medical advice, at any time I desired. Finally, I would like to talk about what is like to live in this facility as a pre-op, transgendered woman. I have to have a male roommate. I have had to personally have one on one discussions, explaining what transgendered even means, with many staff members. My charts, my room name plate, and all information on me produced by this facility, uses my birth name. Some staff members have refused to use my correct name, and only a handful even try to use the correct pronouns. I have been asked by two staff members what type of genitals I have, as if this is relevant in any way. During one gro
