I recently became a new patient of Dr Phelan Thomas, DDS. In the initial consultation, he explained in detail the condition of my teeth, bones and gums. After the initial visit, I knew exactly what was to be done and what the cost would be. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that I would not have to have my remaining teeth extracted as I had been previously advised by another dentist office. Dr. Thomas is very much an experienced and competent Dentist who treats his patients with kindness and compassion utilizing modern dental techniques to alleviate discomfort and pain and assures that the the expected high quality results are achieved. Pros: Did not feel rushed, appreciated Dr. Thomas energy and passion for his work

Cons: Dr. Thomas did not explain first why he wanted to do things, so at several points I was uncomfortable - getting photos taken when I wasn't sure why they were needed, having different items placed in my mouth with no explanation first (I was just there for a cosmetic consultation). I also had to state several times that I didn't want to see what I felt were stomach-turning "before" photos of patients with serious dental issues so he could then show me the after photos. Once again I received excellent dental care from Dr. Thomas and his top notch staff. My dental care since first going to the Iowa Center For Family and Cosmetic Dentistry over 5 years ago is unmatched by any other practice I've been to in 50+ years! It doesn't hurt that I laugh at every visit - Dr. Thomas has an awesome sense of humor!
