My daughter and son-in-law's wedding was recently held in Iowa City, IA at the Iowa Memorial Union. All moms and stepmom were out of town, and we were the wedding planners! At the time, the wedding was about three months away. I read through all the Yelp reviews of floral designers and florists in Iowa City. The first florist I contacted notified me that they were booked that day, but recommended Flowers by Jacqueline. I called and spoke to the owner, Jackie, for quite a while. She asked me questions about my daughter's style, and preferred colors, flowers, etc. When I told her my daughter's style was more in the Bohemian vein, she laughed and said that gave her some great ideas. One of the things she first mentioned, was using thistle. My daughter loved the idea. After we gave Jackie our colors (pale pinks and blues and ivory), she felt she had enough to go on. We let her do her design work and kept her apprised, with photos, of what was being used on the tables. The week before the wedding, it was decided that an arbor would be used. Without flinching or hesitation, Jackie jumped on board and said she would take care of it with greenery and some flowers. Without anything on it, it looked like the gallows. However, after Jackie and her crew were finished, it was beautiful! it was so much prettier than any of the ones that I saw online. I was so happy and so was my daughter and my planning cohorts. Jackie was easy to work with and kept me in the loop at every turn. The bouquets, table centerpieces, guestbook/gift table arrangements were exactly what we wanted; everything was perfect! As a harried mother of the bride, I did not take any photos of the flowers, the arbor, the bouquets, boutonnières, nothing! I will post photos once I receive some from other folks. My daugher-in-law sent me the one below.
My brother, who lives out of state, has ordered floral arrangements for delivery to our mom in Iowa City on several occasions. It's always been a pleasure doing business with Jacqueline, her family, and staff.Without exception, the arrangements have been absolutely stunning. They were very professionally designed and executed, and comprised of fresh, gorgeous, excellent quality, high value flowers which stayed fresh far longer than any arrangements I have ever seen. They secured our loyalty as customers the first time we worked with them. They went far above and beyond their duty to ensure that Mom's flowers made it in time for her 90th birthday, going far out of their...read full review
We've been bringing flowers to our daughter's dance recitals since she was a four-year-old tiny dancer, twirling around to "Walking on Sunshine" back in the early 2000s. But what do you do when she's about to graduate with her BFA in dance from the U of Iowa and her senior capstone project isn't live and in person and instead is about to debut online in about three hours? And you forget to send flowers? After telling your wife you'd take care of it? I panicked, called a few places, got nowhere, panicked some more, and then called Jacqueline--about 15 minutes before closing time. I told her what I needed; she told me she'd take care of it; and she dropped them off at my daughter's apartment on her way home. Great service, great arrangement, great prices and an altogether great experience. I literally called at 4:41 p.m. and my daughter texted us a pic and a really sweet message at 5:38 p.m. Granted, this will do nothing to curb my urge to continually procrastinate but in this case, I have to admit that putting off ordering flowers until the very last minute really paid off.
